POEM STARTER

Belonging

Write a poem about what 'Belonging' means to you.

Removing The Decay

Hollow words leave nothing but decay

I have lived so long in rot filled relationships

I can smell it a mile away

From smiles across the room I can see the corroded teeth

I know the act of lying is a necessity for living

But I have left those crumbling friendships for something better

Through the act of accepting myself

I have found friendships of moral equality

Were the growth of the many flourish

So that all will rise without being used as a stepping ladder

I have learned the meaning of trust

So that my once blackened teeth

Have slowly lost the stain of greed

I have found the truth of relationships

It Is through the act of collaboration

We are able to move forward in life

Through the kindness and compassion that is granted through relationships

So yes I have fallen to the thoughts of greed

And I have been rather cruel

But those that have stood by me

Held my hand as I bleed in my own anger

Those are my people

They have aided me into the discovery of betterment

Showing me there is a diffrent way to live

Helped me trade my hatred for compassion

For I was never angry at anyone but myself

If my friends may learn to love me despite my errors

I shall learn from them how to love my skin

For loving them is like breathing

So surely if I belong with them

I deserve to be loved just as naturally
