Carrying on
“Mom…I can’t do this alone…”
I began to sob as they lower her body into the ground. The sun is out and shinning, I wish it would leave me alone. The world shouldn’t be happy on this day. Not today. The earth is twisted and cruel and I-I
“I will not walk this earth without you…” I mutter.
“hmm?” a man replies, wearing all black, in a sad manner.
“…Nothing” I reply as I turn and hide my face from the man, from the world.
I wish the pain would stop. I only just became an adult and now…
“Why did you leave me?!!?” I scream into the sky.
I lunge forward clinging on to my mother’s casket before they can lower it anymore.
“Why, why did you have to leave?!” I sob.
I turn up to the sky again.
“Why did you take her from me?!”
The man in black puts his arm gently on my shoulder.
“The universe is cruel” he says in a soft tone as his eyes meet the ground.
“You can’t even make eye contact with me” I mutter as I sit on the grass next to the casket.
The sky begins to darken and a light rain falls.
“I guess the universe is morning you now” I say in a half mocking voice.
I raise two fingers to my lips and then to the casket. All the sudden that man in the black suit pulls me away in one motion.
“W-what are you?” I say in a startled manner.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry for everything. I should have never left you…” he beings to sob
“Mom and I did fine…”
“I know. She did so much better than I ever could have. But…” His tears flow so heavily his words escape in gasps of air.
“I’m so…so sorry…they needed me…but you…you needed me…and I-“ he chokes out the words.
“I know…and I… I forgive you…I was never really mad…you know.” I say starting to tear up.
“You weren’t?” he says as he starts to smile through the tears.
“Dad…you were called to war…I never would have stayed mad at you…”
Tears flow down my face. I hope mom can see us now.
