Sea Shells
You tread so carelessly and selfish through life
Wreaking havoc, destroying hearts and causing strife
For you, it was but a moment, a normal thing that you do
For me, it is a lifetime of reliving what you put me through
I close my eyes and picture myself at the sea
as you toss, throw, and rip like waves through me
Like the rogue waves, you strain and hold me down
Sinking into darkness, I begin to drown
Once the storm is over,
there’s a Calmness to the sea
Washed up on the beach alone,
only seashells surround me
Your hands scar my skin like imprints in the sand
Your existence feels like a lingering shadow cast over the land
Hurrying to the water, I cleanse my body at the edge of shore
I close my eyes in pain,
Unsure if I can take this any more
The shells encompass my body guarding me from the oceans wrath
I seek comfort in the darkness through this lonely hard path
The sharpness of your tongue
Lingers upon my skin like a tattoo
In your eyes this is a love story,
You find comfort in this memory that you can refer back to
For you, it was but a moment
For me, it is every day
I have run from it forever, stuck in this memory like a relay
You stormed upon me once, probably nothing for you to remember
But my body has felt it a million times, everyday, it feels like forever
The shell begins to move and tumble through the sea,
Caressed by the waves, it opens up and sets me free
I’d hoped one day you’d seek me out
Trying to explain your side
My anger is unpredictable,
Coming and going like the tide
Here I stand before you demanding back The pieces of me you took.
I’m no longer a victim, nor the girl you shattered and left shook
You may never again enter my body
Not even through my head
For I am here. I am thriving. I am not dead.
You may seek me once more for another love story to tell,
When you think you’ve finally found me ,
In my place ,
you’ll only find Seashells
