POEM STARTER
Submitted by Maranda Quinn
Write a poem from the perspective of someone who obviously hates — or is just extremely bad at — poetry.
Try to consider why someone may feel pressured to write a poem. Love? A school project?
Valentine's Day
On this annual Valentine’s Day,
I will write you a sonnet.
I will shine my love on you,
As bright as a close-passing comet.
You asked me to show up,
And that’s what I’ll do.
I’ll do what’s uncomfy,
Because I love you.
So on this one day,
Of the three sixty-five,
I will give you my everything,
Till I'm no longer alive.
So on this one day,
Appreciate the rare,
To point out the obvious
That I obviously care
Roses and chocolate
I’m forced to waste money
When every other day
I just call you my honey
And that is enough
To just be in love
But today I will spend
Go beyond and above
I love you my dear
This day I do not
I love you my dear
P.S. you’re hot!
