Becoming One
When I was there I felt full of joy. We were standing in an arena, in a dense but happy crowd. The atmosphere was celebratory, even though the band hadn’t started playing. Everyone was tingling with anticipation. This was the moment we have been waiting for. In fact, I know now that it was the most important moment in my life. I felt that everyone else was thinking the same. Finally we’d be able to see them. No one knew who they were. It was a guarded secret since the band appeared. When their music came out, no one anticipated the impact it would have on society. The song went straight to number 1, only days after the release. The country was swept away by it. The music had a unique quality about mesmerising its’ audience. It was quite esoteric and lyrics consisted of inaudible chanting. I didn’t think that I’d be interested in this music. When I first listened I didn’t care much for it. It wasn’t unpleasant or bad music, but I preferred listening to HipHop. After a while, the song was played more and more on the radio, you could hear it everywhere. People were drawn to it and couldn’t stop listening. Soon after, it got me, too. Even when you weren’t listening, it seemed like it was continuing inside your mind. A constant pleasant hum at the back of your thoughts. A spiritual companion that was real and tangible. Apart from releasing new music they kept on expanding the song. By year two the song was 20 minutes and I had become a fan. I stopped listening to any other kind of music. And not only me, my friends, my parents and my grand parents, too. The music transcended into every part of society. Little was known about the artists themselves. Who were they and where did they come from? There were invitations for interviews and appearances at award ceremonies which all were declined politely by the manager. Everybody obsessed about the band. We knew it was too much, but it felt good and right. We all went mad when the concert was announced.
When the music started a cheer went through the crowd and the stage erupted into action with a blast of light. Cascading smoke slowly revealed the band members. All were dressed in colourful rainbow robes covering them completely. Each of them was holding a keyboard guitar, playing synthetic tunes. As the song continued and the crowd chanted along my vision blurred and I entered a state of trance. When I woke I was standing on the stage in front of a band member. The hood of the robe was removed, but instead of a face it revealed a glowing orb. “I am Olin. Are you ready to see?” “ Yes. Yes please!”. Olin laid it’s hands on my shoulders and I all of a sudden I felt like being flushed down a tunnel of light. That day we all became one with God.
