The Man In The Reflection
Quick impatient knocks we’re herd on the old man’s door. As he shuffled over he grabbed a bowl of candy that was sitting beside the door. As he opened the door he was greeted with three children that were holding out there bags.
“Well, what do we have here?” The man smiled.
The tallest child on the left wore only a white cloth resting apon there head. The smallest child in the middle wore a pointy hat with a black dress. The last child, which was medium height, on the right wore a distinctive mask that gleamed in delight.
“Trick or treat!” The children song.
The man reached in the bowl and distributed the candy in each of the children’s bags. They then left with a “Thank you” and “Goodbye”. Followed by the man closing the door. Putting the bowl of candy back in its place as he turned off his porch light. The night was coming to an end and the man’s eyes fluttered open and close.
As the man was walking up the stairs, a knocking sound followed. He just ignored it and continued. The knocking just continued as the pounding intensified.
He turned around and walked back over to the door. As he flung open the door ready to start babbling at the person, but to his surprise nobody was there. He stood there for a few seconds and closed the door.
A sigh left his cold lips and he went back up the stairs. As he entered his room he got into his bed as he pulled the covers to his chest. His eyes began to flutter close but just as he was comfortable a shatter was herd from downstairs. He quickly sat up as he reached for the shotgun beside his bed.
Finally after a few arguments with himself he headed downstairs. With every foot that hit the next stair followed with a quiet creak. He peeked behind the wall gazing into the kitchen. Mud and glass covered the floor that followed by a a tiny black figure that peeked behind the table.
“Mallory!? What have you gotten yourself into sweetheart?” The old man chuckled.
The cat responded with a quick and quiet meow and walked towards the man. He placed down his gun as his hand grazed down its back and gently pulling its tail.
“I’ll have to clean this up tomorrow” He sighed.
The old man headed back up his stairs once more and into his bedroom. Suddenly he felt as if he was being watched. He quickly walked into his bathroom and locked the door. He wiped his face as he tried to process what was going on. Just as he turned around a human like creature met his gaze.
A gasp managed to escape his mouth. His body was almost pushed backwards hitting the counter behind him.
The creature looked as if his skin was not there, just his skull. A shadow casted over its eyes which were a blurry grey. It’s smile was soulless.
“What do you want from me!” The old man yelled.
But there was no response, only it’s smile grew.
It’s head began to tilt as the man slid down on the floor. Gasping for air as he held his chest in agony. Only a horse scream was able to leave his lips before his eyes closed. His body was stood still. As coldness began to spread.
Later that night police sirens were herd from outside. A officer banged on the door as he waited for an answer as a crunch was herd under his feet. He stepped back to see crushed up candy scattered across the floor. He just shook his head as he began to grow impatient. He then proceeded to bust through the door. The officer reached for his gun as he walked into the kitchen. Mud and glass was scattered across the floor. A muddy trail was seen going up the stairs.
The man walked up the stairs and looked around. He walked into a bedroom and looked around. His eyes met with black cat. The cat looked over at the door and began to paw at it. He walked over and banged on the bathroom door. As no answer was herd he busted through the door. He peered over to his reflection to see a man on the floor in the reflection. He looked over to see an old man laying on the floor. He bent down and soon found out he was dead.
