POEM STARTER
Write a series of five Haiku set at the same event, exploring the five senses: sight, smell, sound, touch, taste.
A Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry, consisting of three lines that generally do not rhyme, with a syllabic structure of 5-7-5.
Flagpole Hanging
Two early risers
Face the sun head-on, daring
Day and light to come.
Hum a melody,
March in lock-step, arm-in-arm,
As dawn breaks above.
Stare into its core,
It’s a vibrant hue, blinding,
One eye bright like yours.
A promised morrow,
Symbolic, almost hopeful,
_We will make it home._
You taste victory,
Florid and ripe on your tongue,
Soon awashed by pride.
