POEM STARTER

Submitted by Brynlee

'I don't want to stick out like a weed in a field of wildflowers.'

Use this sentence to inspire a poem or short scene.

Trunk Among Twigs

Too bad for the redwood that lies far from its grove

Whose limbs stretch toward the omnipotent sky;

begging dearly and frantically to be relieved of its blight.

No sky succumbs to pleas of the few

Only yielding to the maple forest's cry.

Tall and brute is the crimson bark

Protruding, akin to a trunk among twigs.

And when all imploring fails

That is when the

magnificent, remarkable, beautiful redwood

is chopped down from its base.

(It was tough to portray it through my writing as I am not very advanced yet, but my goal was to make the redwood represent an individual, the grove/maple forest be society or the vast majority of people, and the sky be like a higher being. The poem is supposed to show how some people may plead to god that something about them may change or become normal, but in the end, the hopes of just one person won't help any desired outcome. Ultimately, the uniqueness and beauty of the individual are shattered. Please leave your thoughts on how well or poorly I did telling this story through my poem!!)
