The Night Party
All was arranged. The table and chairs, the candles. The Lanterns bobbing from tree branches lit up the pathway so no one would get lost trying to find us. Tree trunk cubbies for tired partiers to take a nap between dances.
But no one came. The forest was silent, broken only by a few coyote songs and owl calls.
It was the last time I would ever try to help my sister.
