His eyelashes are still, will never again move

His perfect small ears will never again hear

Those lovely plump lips won’t speak any words

But my love for my son won’t ever disappear

In another life, he lives to be an adult

His soul stays on earth, and his body grows tall

In another life, my empty arms don’t ache

My shattered heart’s whole and my grieved tears don’t fall

I have to believe I’ll see him again

That when this life ends, another begins

My little boy’s there, just beyond the veil

On the other side of heartbreak and my imperfect sins

I’ll be there someday, when these trials abate

When my duties are through and I’ve finished my test

He may still be a babe, or a grown man perhaps

But I’ll hold him the same, his head to my chest

In another life, a life after death

Where heartache is naught and love is unfurled

My heart will be mended, my arms will be full

In another life, in a better world.
