POEM STARTER
"“What did you do?”
Write a poem that incorporates this question three times.
Choose any theme you’d like, as long as you use repetition to create an interesting effect.
“What Did You Do?”
The house was dead before the fall,
Its windows black, no light at all.
Something breathed beneath the floor
Not living. Not anymore.
The fire burned without a flame
The clocks all stopped but whispered names.
The walls were wet with something thick,
The air itself began to stick.
A mouth behind the mirror grew
“What did you do?”
You said it once. just once to her,
That lie wrapped soft in lover's purr.
But when the river took her hand,
You watched her drown and let her stand.
You lit a match. You walked right through.
The bones remember.
What did you do?
They come in dreams those eyes, that grin.
You scrub the red, it's still your skin.
The door you locked keeps opening wide,
And someone waits just past the tide.
She hums the song she died to, too
And sings between the cracks
“What did you do?”
