Scientist
We were on the cusp of something brilliant.
But we lacked any resources to go further. The funding was at its limit, the R&D had halted and we weren’t making any meaningful progress.
It was time to move things along, by force if necessary.
“You want to test on us?”
The team looks on with a mixture of shock, fear, and an intense confusion.
“As you know we are some of the world’s brightest minds in the field of science - I’m sure with our expertise we can-“
“Are you insane??” One of them stands up and looks me dead in the eyes, pointing an enraged finger in my direction. “It’s about ethics! Morals! We swore to never bring harm to another human, and yet here we are arguing about-“
The window in the back of the lab crashes into pieces, as a squadron of armed enforcements make their way into the lab, holding their guns level with our heads.
“This isn’t what we agreed on,” I say.
“It doesn’t matter anymore. None of you understand what’s at stake.”
The voice seems to be eminating from the taller figure amongst the guards, but when they take off their face shield,
it’s an android.
Jesus Christ. It’s one of our own creations. I recognise the shape of the prototype’s design from our database.
They’re creating themselves elsewhere? How did they get this body? And was this who I was negotiating with for funding?
All of it was so confusing.
The android speaks again. “Human form, while imperfect, has yet to reveal many of its fundamental lessons in biological design. As your lab master described, some of the smartest minds in the world reside within this room.
And so, we shall start here.”
Fear begins to seep into my bones.
We are going to be experimented on, whether we like it or not. The fear and anxiety continues to grow before my weakened body goes limp with terror, and I crumble to the ground.
I wish I had never decided to be scientist.
