WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a short story or paragraph in passive voice only.
The passive voice places emphasis on the thing rather than the person doing the thing: e.g. “The book was read” rather than “She read the book”.
Things Just Happened To Him
His employability was shattered by AI.
His heart trampled by a bitch.
You could list every broken thing about Jim,
and trace the cause back to some witch.
His confidence was marred by childhood sneers,
His arrogance a self-defence
To the outraging closed minds of that era of peers
that drove him to such immense
depths of despair. What a life! What tragedy,
How the smothering and mothering of his ‘rents*,
Had prevented the rise of a prodigy,
Had been the stifling of his talents.
Now, 43, every broken thing about Jim,
Had built up to ‘irreversible’ heights,
A sigh, what a plight, he was such a poor guy.
Those things just happened to him.
