A Different Part of Town
"John."
The man gave an awkward wave and started to hose and water his bushes. John, the man next door, gave back a wave.
"Nice day, huh?" the man said. His sunglasses reflected the blazing sun away as his hair grew more and more greasy from his sweat. John was trimming his plants, trying not to make eye contact with his strange neighbor. "Beth and I, our relationship isn't going so well."
"Sorry to hear that," John says, awkwardly. He has no idea who Beth is, he's guessing his neighbor's wife. John sees his dog looking out the window and John smiles at the precious sight.
The strange neighbor plucks a leaf from his bush and flicks it off in disgust. John decides to go back inside in uncomfortableness.
The day I was born had no bearing on this scene.
