POEM STARTER

Write a winter Pantoum.

A pantoum is a poem where each stanza is 4 lines, and the second and fourth line of each stanza are repeated as the first and third lines of the next. As this creates a lot of repetition, try to pick a winter theme that would benefit from emphasis of certain lines.

New Years’ Eve

I button my coat before the front door

Your breath warms the back of my neck

As we walk out into the cold air

Your hand finds a home in mine.

Your breath warms the back of my neck

As I align my steps with yours

Your hand finds a home in mine

Softly I smile at your side.

As I align my steps with yours

I see thousands of New Years’ lights

Softly I smile at your side

I lean against you and hold you tight.

I see thousands of New Years’ lights

As we stand at the edge of the crowd

I lean against you and hold you tight

And see starlight in your eyes.

As we stand at the edge of the crowd

I look up at your gorgeous face

And see starlight in your eyes.

We kiss under the clouded sky.

I look up at your gorgeous face

And I find myself at home there

We kiss under the clouded sky

The cold can’t reach your warm embrace.
