POEM STARTER
Heavy rain, cracked windows, and a forgotten song.
Use these descriptors as inspiration for a poem.
Highway 78
Though I can never go back again
I can never forget the feeling
Sitting in the back seat
Vinyl bench seat with three belts
Not wearing any of them
And over his shoulder I could see
His hands on the steering wheel
Wipers at full speed
The crack that ran across the windshield
The crack in his voice
As he told me that we wouldn’t see her again
And what was the song
What was the song on the AM/FM radio
The one detail I can’t seem to bring up
Was it Waylon Jennings?
Or Blood Sweat and Tears
Or was the radio not playing anything at all
And my mind
Just wants to fill something in
A sound to fill the space
Between the distant thunder
And his grief
And my grief
