POEM STARTER
Write a poem about a birthday.
This doesn't have to be about your own birthday. What themes could you explore through writing about birthdays?
Your Lies Make Me Cry, Why?
You promised I’d never have to be alone again.
You told me you’d come.
You told me you were excited.
You told me I was your best friend
And you’d never ditch me.
Quite ironic, isn’t it?
You never even came.
You posted pictures of you with everyone we invited.
We made a list of people invited to invite together!
You were with _every single one of them_.
You lied to me.
You ever said you got sick and sent a picture of the thermometer.
I trusted you. You were what I wanted to be. You were my everything,
But good thing never last,
I should’ve known.
I’m missing my other half,
And, hell, it really hurts.
All I am left to do is
Sit here,
Surrounded by stupid stuffed animals
Acting as friends.
My eyes fill.
Blurred vision makes it hard to see the time on my phone.
Music plays on my phone,
But I never hear a buzz of notifications,
At least, except for when you post about
How fun that stupid, stupid party is.
I notice, I am
Alone again.
Now, I realize what a horrible friend you are.
Whenever something special happened,
You had an excuse not to come.
You were never there
But you manipulated me into thinking
You were the only one who could ever love me. _*as friends*_
You isolate me.
Your little tricks fooled me,
But not anymore.
Suddenly, I hear a knock on the door.
I wipe my eyes
And turn the handle.
My neighbor, Xavier, is standing there with a small gift in hand.
He said, “I hear it is your birthday, so I made you a gift.”
I was shocked,
We’d only hung out a hand full of
Times.
“T-thank you!”
I stutter out.
Gosh darn it!
All this “speech therapy” never helps when I’m sad.
“Can I come in?” He asks, but
Not in a demanding tone.
Instead his voice is soft,
Like he is trying to be
Careful.
“Oh! Of course,”
I lead him to the table.
There was pizza, goody bags, and face masks.
All your favorite things.
“Feel free to have the some food!”
He sat down
And began to eat.
I followed and did the same.
We sat next to each other in
_Awkward silence_
For several minutes.
Until Xavier pulled up something on his phone.
It was a
_Cat meme. _
A cat meme.
A cat meme!
Right then and there, I burst out laughing.
So did Xavier.
After we finished eating,
We talked for hours.
We agreed that cats were better than dogs.
We actually have a
Loot in common!
Then, I **_jokingly _**said,
“We should put on the face masks.”
…
Ten minutes later, we were ripping the face masks out of the packaging.
They were Disney princess themed.
_*Don’t make fun of it, I have a vision.*_
Xavier got an Ariel one.
I had a Belle one.
We made jokes about how
Silly
We looked,
Laughing until our stomachs hurt.
That night, when we said our goodbyes, we made plans to get some ice cream this week.
*THIS IS THE LONGEST STORY I’VE WRITTEN ON HERE!!!!! YAY! I like this one a lot, actually. I was going to end it before Xavier arrived, but I really wanted a happy ending. And, as always, have a wonderful day/night!*
