POEM STARTER

Write a tanaga about how sunshine makes you feel.

A tanaga is a form of Filipino poetry often compared to haikus. Tanagas use 4 lines of 7 syllables each, and are often full of metaphors.

rise again soon

She is far away right now… But reaches out when she can. She tries to light a small flame In the darkness of my eyes. Like a parent abroad, I feel her love in moments Of brief fleeting daylight And then she is out of sight. O Sun, don’t set Just yet O Sun, Please rise again soon Sometimes I feel Her presence behind me Like a kind hand On my shoulder She weaves through the falling snow As if she was Searching for me in a crowd These short moments of relief Are stepping stones to shelter. I reach out for them Like my fading memories Of fragrant summer air The cruelty of winter Runs my soul and my skin dry She warms me from a distance Until the friendly breath of spring Can renew me once more
