POEM STARTER

Write a series of five Haiku set at the same event, exploring the five senses: sight, smell, sound, touch, taste.

A Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry, consisting of three lines that generally do not rhyme, with a syllabic structure of 5-7-5.

Sight, Smell, Sound, Touch, Taste

Sight:

Lanterns aglow, bright

Fireworks paint the night sky

Colors dance and fade

Smell:

Smoky barbecue

Wafts through air thick with spices

Tempting aromas

Sound:

Laughter and music

Mingle with distant thunder

Summer's symphony

Touch:

Grass tickles bare feet

Breeze caresses heated skin

Cool droplets of rain

Taste:

Sweet cotton candy

Melts on tongue, sticky fingers

Summer's fleeting treat
