Fall-in?
“I will not walk this earth without you.” Carter gripped my hand tightly, “Watch your step next time. Do you understand?”
My mouth is still hung open. Carter, THE Carter, saved me? But why? What does he mean by “he won’t walk this earth without me?” I started to spiral, “I thought you hated me…” I mumbled, looking up at him.
He gritted his teeth as he looked up, obviously annoyed, yet…maybe slightly relieved? “I don’t want to be responsible for someone’s death.” He finally said after a long pause. Excuses, excuses. We both know that is not true.
Ever since we had a fall out, we became the opposite of “good friends.” The guy who made me feel miserable the whole year, saves me from plumping to my death by a 85 miles per hour car? Unbelievable. “I owe you.” I stammered as I got out of my train of thought. He may be nothing but a jerk, but he saved me.
He shrugged, finally letting go of my wrist. I rubbed it a little as I felt the blood rushing back to my fingers, “it’s nothing.”
I made a soft smile, “sure it’s something. I could’ve died. Blood everywhere.” Then I shrinked back, “though you wouldn’t seem to care anyways.”
He sighed loudly; “I would care.” Carter looked down at his feet. I can’t help but stare at his face. His hazel eyes and his brunette hair. He seemed to be sweating from this event. Wait. Was he blushing?
“Still. I have to give you something.” I said, teasing now, “how about we stop by the cafe?””
