WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a dual point-of-view scene in which the right part of the brain and the left are disagreeing about a topic.
Think about the characteristics associated with each side.
the odds against the author
Don't worry about the small stuff. Writing is your dream! You can do anything you put your mind to, and you want to put your mind to this, to telling stories that matter. Who cares about what the world thinks, really?
Don't listen to the right. She doesn't understand the way the world works. If you try to pursue this 'writing' thing, you're going to end up living paycheck to paycheck for the rest of your life. Pick a more practical career; you'll thank yourself in the long run.
Don't let go of what you want! It might not work out in the beginning, but you're determined, and it'll have to work out for you eventually. So many people end up breaking through years into their career. You're so young, you have so much time for things to turn up.
Don't push too hard for a writing career. It's not a stable career. Many don't ever break through, and the chances of you being one of them is higher than is reasonable. How are you going to support a family? There's no guarantee your wife has a stable career, either. You could both end up homeless on the streets because you both tried to pursue your dreams.
Don't give up yet. Please. You can't let her get to you. There's no guarantee, but there's nothing wrong with trying.
Don't go your whole life aiming for something you'll never reach.
Believe in yourself. I know you better than she does.
Don't get rid of your voice of reason.
Remember the difference between impossibility and improbability. People overcome improbable odds all the time. It just takes enough persistence.
Don't let her trick you. She's making you soft, she's giving you too much hope--
You can listen to me instead. Trust me. It's worth it.
