The Sun and The Moon

The sun’s rays shone brightly down onto the Earth below him. Lately, he had heard the whispers from Earth’s brothers and sisters — he was not the only one casting light upon Earth.

He looked to the far side of the land and caught a glimpse of a pale body, smaller than his own, barely illuminated.

“How beautiful,” The deep rumbling voice of the sun boomed. The day stretched further, reaching its end as he drifted farther toward the horizon, painting the sky with the many shades of dusk.

With each star that newly shone, the Sun’s heart grew fonder of the heavenly beauty ascending into the sky.

He was almost out of sight, but now he could fully see her.

Her crystalline eyes opened to gaze upon him and he was stunned.

Her smile was somewhat pleading as she spoke with her sweet voice.

“Go,”

The sun smiled in return, mesmerized.

“I wish to stay and be with you,” He said, almost in a whisper.

“If you love me, you must let me breathe,” She replied with a sadness.

The Sun knew he couldn’t stay with her no matter how much he wished to, but he could still make her happy.

“It must remain this way, for the sake of this land. Besides, I cannot shine without your light,” She continued softly.

“As you wish.” He said knowingly, his great fiery eyes closing as he sank further below the horizon.

The moon was now high in the starry sky, illuminating the darkness-shrouded land with her radiant ghostly glow.

“I am always with you,” The Sun’s last words echoed.

“We will see each other again. Thank you,” She spoke affectionately, giving him one last smile before he was gone.
