POEM STARTER
Inspired by Maranda Quinn
Write a poem centred around the theme of destruction.
Chaos
Morbid sounds coming from the casket.
Dried roses and flowers of losses.
Ashes and blood flow through my veins;
The past is the present: lost and decayed.
Cities burn to a crisp.
Apple trees, once tall, wither into the abyss.
Scarlett sunsets turned to black—chaos ensues
There’s no going back.
Destruction is chaos, and the chaos is me.
I am the nightmare of the earth and the trees.
Sirens in the distance, howling of the wind.
Treeless lands are surfacing within.
Within the roots of chaos and greed,
The light is fading, and everything we need.
Destroy and burn—ashes fill the urn.
Kill and suffice—but what is left to sacrifice?
Can it be undone?
Or are we destined to burn like the sun?
Can it be fixed—
The brutality of what exists?
Is it immoral, to hope that it will be saved,
When I know deep inside-
I am to blame.
