Surprise Date

I sat nervqously in this fancy Italian diner. My date was running late and I almost started to regret letting my friends set up another blind date. Not because I didn’t trust them but… they weren’t a sight to wake up to. Just not my type okay?

I was about to get up when I saw a lady walk through the door with a fancy royal blue dress. After that a man in an equally nice attire. They didn’t appear together so it gave me a bit of hope. She began to walk to my table, I got excited and opened my mouth to greet her assuming she was my date. But just as I stood, she went right past me. Greeting another sitting down at a table with another woman.

I sat back down, embarrassed and rested my elbows on the table, clasping my hands and closing my eyes in frustration. Just then I felt a shift at the table.

I look up at the person across from me. Nothing could have possibly prepared me for who I was looking at. This has to be a joke.

“Hello you are Hank, yes?” My supposed date says from across the table. They reached out to shake my hand but I just sat there. Like a dear in headlights.

“Yes… I am Hank, and you are…” trailing off to allow an answer. Finally reaching to shake the offered hand.

“Daniel! We actually met at a bar not to long ago. Your friend said you were single and I figured I’d shoot my shot.” He shot a bright smile and reached his hand a bit further across the table.

A guy was one of the last people I expected to see at my table. I never thought about other men like that. In a dating perspective I mean. But looking at it now, I didn’t want to say no. He looked so happy.

Not to mention that I actually can remember Daniel. He bought me a drink and told some good jokes but I didn’t think he was flirting with me. Now that he’s here, he was pretty obviously flirting with me.

So finally, I shook his hand, opened the menu and cleared my throat. “So Daniel. What are you getting to eat?”

He opened the menu and flipped back and forth between pages before pointing at a dish. “The shimp linguini Alfredo sounds good,” he then looks up and me and raises his finger to point at me, “and maybe you later tonight?” He looked at me intently.

Just then something clicked. This felt different from a woman’s flirtatious stare. It felt more… intimate?

He laughed at my reaction. And just before I could respond the waitress came to our table to take our drinks.

This was going to be interesting.

1 hour later I caught myself walking out of the diner, a smile plastered on my face and Daniel’s number snug in my pocket.

Needless to say that I definitely would be seeing Daniel very, very soon.
