The Storm
He tied the bow rope as hard as he could. The sea was stormy, twelve-foot-high waves pouring over the side of the ship. Lightning came from the dark sky, lighting the clouds.
It seemed to witness a battle between gods, as if Zeus and Poseidon were fighting each other.
The ship swayed violently making life complicated for Jack, who tried to close the sail to prevent the wind from breaking the mast. He stopped the rope by tying it to the tree.
"Flick, vira!" He screamed trying to overcome the noise in the wind. The boy at the helm turned the large wooden wheel to his left. The components of the light moved from one side of the ship to the other, to contain the damage of the storm.
A mountain of water spilled on the bridge making Jack slide against the parapet. He coughed out the drunk salt water, and got up. He knew what was happening. As soon as he left the port the storm had hit his head, as if pointing directly at his ship.
"Captain" said a member of his crew "what are the orders?"
In his many years at sea he had never come across such a storm. A lightning bolt illuminated the sky and he swore to have seen, projected into the sky, the silhouette of a trident. The blood froze in his veins.
"We must abandon the ship" he said "we must abandon the ship" he repeated louder.
"But not captain..." was saying the hub when another wave reserved itself on the ship. The hull turned dangerously from one side, saw some crew members flying into the water.
He knew what, or rather, who had triggered in the brutal storm.
It was him.
Many years ago.
I had told him that his promise had a deadline. But he was too foolish to believe it.
He got on his knees and put his hands in hand.
"Please" he begged to the sky "I beg you my gods, give me more time" in full response a lightning went to a few meters away from where he was kneeling. Part of the bridge on fire. The crew went to the life rafts, about to abandon the ship.
Jack knew it wouldn't be enough, the gods would find him everywhere.
Years ago he was captured by pirates but managed to escape by throwing himself into the open sea. He was injured and missing at sea and did the only thing he was capable of. He pray. He pray Poseidon to save him, to spare his life. He did it but warned him, his prayer was not infinite.
The sea claimed his name. You don't mess with the gods. The sea receded, and a wave, the largest he had seen, rose high. He almost touched the sky. He would have swallowed the ship. I look at his ship one last time and then the wave. He said out loud: βI knew all along that this was how it would endβ
