Frosting On The Cake
Window fogging up like genie freed from the lamp.
Waking up with sand of sleep in his eyes that cramp.
Like a ship weary clinging on to life in storm,
Walt tossed and turned in night until dawn’s sun did warm.
Rehashing hurtful words that tormented his sleep.
Visions of exploding tongue as front door closed deep.
“What were you thinking!!.” Followed by a frosty stare.
Invisible walls trapped him in solitude sheer.
Befogged and dragging his feet in silent timeout,
He walked the gauntlet down hallway with pout.
With shrug, he side glanced kitchen while his heart in sling.
He scanned every nook and cranny for the swamp thing.
It took all he had left to switch on the bathroom light.
He staggered to frosted door to turn knobs to right.
He bereft of spirit defrocked still bedraggled.
Like incense to heaven, hot steam shower filled.
Like a phoenix rising from its ashes, spirit rose.
Invigoratied from despair from head to toes.
