Malfunction
It wouldn’t cease.
The buzzing, buzzing, buzzing!!!
That freaking buzzing in my ear!!!
It wouldn’t stop, it was right inside my head.
I clutched my head between my hands and screamed into my silent room.
“LEAVE ME ALONE!!!”
But the buzzing wouldn’t stop, it was right there.
Relentless.
I climbed out of bed and ran to to the bathroom, turned on the light as I blinked several times to see clearer.
I looked right into the mirror, mouth breathing on glass.
I studied my face, but there was nothing and yet the buzzing wouldn’t stop.
It was still there.
I pushed my finger into my ear, just to see if I could block it out, but then I felt something.
Something hot, really hot.
I burned my finger and yelped.
I ran it under cold water and then pinched a washcloth between my fingers.
I pushed that into my ear and felt the shape of a round object.
I pinched it and began to pull it out my ear.
As it left my ear I could see it more clearly.
A silver metal ball no bigger than a piece of polystyrene. A tiny little ball.
It came out with difficulty and I realised it was attatched to something long and stringy.
It was attratched to wires.
The buzzing turned into a screech now.
As if the ball was telling me to leave it be.
But I can’t!!!
It shouldn’t be there!!!
I yank it out with extreme force and…
My eyes slowly open to a dark red light.
I look around but I can’t move.
My body is stiff, heavy like someone is sitting on it.
I blink and a million different dots appear in my line of vision.
They turn to dashes, then to lines, and then to letters.
The letters become words and I can read them.
•System Compromised - - Commencing Power Saving Mode - - Directive 011010100110•
They make no sense, but it’s all I can see.
I read them over and over as I notice my eye beginning twitch and then my fingers.
Before I know it my eyes are closing again and the sound of the buzzing is gone now, instead it’s replaced with a long deep bleep. A ringing in my ear.
