POEM STARTER

Write a rhyming poem that explores differing perspectives on an event.

Dual narratives and the need for repeated sounds will create an interesting dynamic in this poem!

Date Night

“It was by far the single worst thing I’ve seen in all my life” I say as I leave the theatre with my wife.

She says “are you kidding, that film was so good I want to see it twice, perhaps I may even fork out to see it thrice!”

I ask if she’s joking, she says “I’m not” that leaves me choking and in quite the spot.

“What was it about it you liked so little?” I tell her “it was supposed to be a comedy, but I couldn’t even tittle.”

“You’re not funny that’s why” she says really sly. “How dare you!” I joke in my funny reply.

“In all serious though” I take her hand in mine “I’m glad you enjoyed it and had a good time.”

She looks up at me and into my eyes, she smiles as she places a hand on my thigh. “I know you didn’t enjoy the film as much as I did, but I have another fun thing in mind at home … if you want to try it?”

I swoop her up in my arms and lift her high, I run to the car and wish I could fly.

“I love you” she laughs as I place her in her seat, it makes me blush and I look down at my feet. “I love you the most” I respond “I can’t wait for my treat.”
