WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a story about a wild bachelorette party beginning in media res.
'In media res' refers to starting a story at the chronological middle of the plot. What elements will you need to incorporate to ensure the plot still makes sense?
Wild Party
The girls were screaming wildly and stuffing dollar bills into the strippers’ g-string, making Marty a happy guy. Among them was Betty, the bride-to-be, who was the most ambitious. She had even grabbed his privates once, and Marty was certain it wasn’t an accident because she gave him a smile with a wink.
It was interesting because when the women entered the club, Betty was the quietest one. She wore her sash with the word ‘Bride’ across it and looked as if she had never been in such an establishment. Her friends, on the other hand, seemed very comfortable in the club. In fact, Marty was pretty sure he had seen a couple of them here before.
“Come on, Betty, take my dollar bills. This is your last night of freedom,” Becky, the maid of honor, said as she pushed Betty towards the stage. Betty blushed, took a sip of her drink, and began to watch the show.
Marty could sense the fresh meat and knew he was going to score big tonight. Maybe it would even be more than dollar bills. He knew how bachelor parties went—they were worse than any other kind of party. He ran onto the stage in his fireman’s costume and began his performance. Apparently, Betty was already fired up and had had a few drinks because that’s when the grab happened with the smile and wink.
Betty looked into Marty’s eyes and pulled him down, asking if she could see him after the show. Sure enough, it was going to be a really good night.
