Let The Earth Take Me

The sun fills the vast landscape of the scorched earth, the ground dry and dusty. I don’t know how long it has been since I have been here. I forget how I got here. I know I don’t have long left, I look down at my water bottle but it's only enough for one more sip, I need to make this last.

The dry and cracked earth goes on for miles in every direction, this dessert is going to be my resting place.

I will just keep walking. I think to myself, eventually I will once again see civilization, I just hope I can reach one in time before my body gives up on me. I feel like I have been walking forever.

I can see a rock formation in the distance. I hope it has a cave where I can rest and escape this sun.

I look up at the sun, it scorches my body, I run with all the energy that I have left, eventually getting to the cave.

I lay on the floor panting, the floor is cool but dusty, the air still hot and hard to breath, I finally take my last sip of water as I wait for this god forsaken sun.

Seconds pass like minutes, minutes pass like hours and hours pass like days. Finally the sun descents and moonlight shines across the desolate landscape. Great now my problem has just switched, the wind is not cutting through me like Illinois of tiny daggers, the cold is like nothing I have felt before, I can feel it's cold grasp, it is the weather or the cold grasp of death himself welcoming me to pass on to the next world.

That’s it...i give up, I’m done fighting. I will just lay here... I can feel it.. this is the end, I let the cold and dusty earth take my body away, i welcome it... at last... I can rest forever
