The Price
I ran to the woods, with my daughter in my
arms. My breath quickened, my arms were sore.
The house I was looking for was a witch’s house. A cabin, I was looking for a cabin.
There. The log cabin hidden with trees. I ran as fast as I could. My legs get as if they were going to collapse if I had to walk another mile.
“Help!” I screamed, I looked down at my daughter, Jessica.
A door opened on the log cabin. An young woman came out. My legs started to wobble, I fell to my knees. I cradled her in my arms sobbing.
She was dying, she could go in seconds. Her face was pale and her side was bleeding. We had just been attacked and most of our village had been destroyed and captured the ones who were alive.
She closed her eyes. Her breathing slowed. No, no, no. She can’t die. She’s too young. I’d give her my life if it meant she would live.
Her body went limp and her skin was cold to the touch. I cried, it didn’t even sound human. The woman came to me.
“You! You could’ve help me!” I screamed getting up.
“You’ve lost so much, now I’ll give you a gift.” She smiled.
She placed her hands on my shoulders. She smiled and then she disappeared. Of course, she ran. I raced to Jessica, I couldn’t leave her.
As soon as my hands touched her body, her face poured with color. She gasped and reached my face.
“Mama? Your here?” She asked hugging me. I healed her. She was alive.
~Four years later~
I had a shop were people came to be healed. A non-profit program. People would come me I’d heal them. I was given a gift and now I will share it. I had healed the whole rebuild village. The whole world came as well.
One day my daughter didn’t come out of her room. She was always up for school.
“Jessy? It’s time for school get up!” I called.
No respond. Maybe she didn’t hear me. I walked into her room, she was laying on her bed. Her face was pale. Her side was bleeding.
“Mom?” She called, “where are you?”
“I’m right here.” I said.
I thought I healed her. She was perfect.
Her eyes closed and she was gone. I ran to her and placed my hands on her. She just laid there. She was gone. I sobbed. Why was this happening.
Soon, my door was knocked on. I opened the door and people were holding their pets and children. They were dying and getting sick again. They were dropping like flies.
The witch came behind me. The once blemish free young woman looked like she was decaying by the second.
“Magic has a price. Now we got to pay for it.” And she dropped into dust.
They were all dying. Everyone I healed, was gone. I was alone in the world. I had single handily killed the world’s population. I was alone. I was all alone in the whole world.
