STORY STARTER

Inspired by HardCoreWriter

Write a story that starts in a calm library, and ends with an illegal car race...

Focus on how you make a believable transition between these scenes.

First Dates Suck

"So where do you want to meet?" he asked, which I appreciated. I don't always care for people making decisions for me.

"How about the library? It's quiet and won't be crowded", and it's filled with light and there's no alcohol.

"Sure that sounds good. Noon?"

"Noon is fine".

I pull up to the library and see a man that looks like the man I matched with on Hitch. Mark was his name. Mark Cunningham. He was wearing nice dark blue jeans and a soccer jersey. I'm guessing Brasil. He had on glasses, which he didn't have in his profile picture, but he still was handsome. We went inside and found some large comfy chairs to sit in, and talked for quite a while. He even pulled a book of poetry off the shelf and read some to me.

I noticed the lady at the front desk kept looking over at us. I didn't think anything of it at first, but she kept looking. I was wondering if we were being too loud or otherwise being disruptive. I shrugged it off until it seemed that Mark noticed too.

"Let's get out of here", he said, looking from her to me. He smiled wide. "I know a good ice cream place not too far".

We got up to leave, with the front desk lady eyeing us as we left. I offered to meet him there, but he insisted on driving, and he would bring me back to the library when we were done. He seemed harmless so I agreed. As soon as I sat in the car, I hear sirens behind me. Mark looked back and screamed "Hurry up and get in the car!!". He sped off before I fully had a chance to get my leg in and close the door.

"That dumb witch called the police!"

"Why? Why would she do that? Who are you?" I yelled.

"Don't worry, I'll lose them". Mark went barreling down the street, weaving through cars and running red lights. I was scared for my life, but I didn't dare to say anything. I had to think fast, and try to find out why he was running from the police.
