One Summer Day
We met one day, the sun shone bright and hot,
My eyes were drawn to you and I was stuck,
Your gaze held mine, rooted me on the spot,
My heart stopped still; Love’s sure arrow had struck.
You looked away in search of something else,
My face like any other dull and plain,
I could not match the spirit of yourself,
Nor could your quick mind hope to entertain.
And so we parted, went our different ways,
Your heart stone cold, but mine was still ablaze
