Bitten

Amie held Mauro and I's hands, oblivious to our situation. She sung nursery rhymes she learned from the other kids at camp. Camp... Amie is so innocent. We managed to protect her from the sights and screams that ensued the attack. I ran with Amie tucked to my chest and Mauro ran beside us, gun in hand, protecting us from the bitters. That was a few hours ago. We're now on our way to a nearby civilization called Alexandria. Mauro says we're almost there, but i was starting to wonder if I'll make it till then…

I could feel the fever starting up; sweat dripping down my forehead, my cheeks flushed even though I was starting to have a chill.

“Nella? Nella? Cornella!?” Said the voice slowly growing louder, shouting my full name.

“Huh?” Snapping out of my daze, I looked around for the voice. It was Mauro.

“You doing alright?” A look of concern crossed his features.

“Oh, just tired. Do you know how long until we’re out of this tunnel?”

“Yah! I wanna pick fwowers!” Amie shouted, pulling us forward.

“Shhh! Amie you don’t want to attract the bitters!” Mauro whispered harshly, but then softening his tone. “We’ll be out of here soon. In another hour or so.” He looked back to me.

I could do that…
