Group Therapy

"Alright, so who wants to go first?" Water adjusted her glasses on her nose and glanced expectantly around at the group around her. Fire, as usual, looked guarded and irritable. Air looked distracted by the bouncy balls distributed to each element to make the room more inviting. Earth was the only one who seemed to be paying any attention.

"I'll go," Earth volunteered. The most levelheaded of the elements, yet still so hardened. It was hard for Water to gauge if she'd ever make a breakthrough with Earth. She'd just have to chip away at her, piece by piece.

"I got fired on yesterday," Earth revealed with a plain face. Water, ever the emotional one, reacted with a startled "Oh!" while Fire laughed and Air patted Earth on the back. Earth swatted his hand away.

"You mean that rundown vegan joint?" Fire snorted. "How'd you do that? Can't you count right?" he taunted and Earth's eye twitched slightly.

"Fire!" Air cut in, trying to keep everyone cool amidst the rising tensions. "It's okay, Earth, I can't count either. I always forget nine." Air whispered loudly to Earth, failing his attempt to make her feel better.

"I didn't get fired 'cause I couldn't _count_," Earth explained. "I was fired because the customer insisted on using an expired coupon. I told her it was expired and she lost it and-"

The door slammed open and a tall, platinum blonde haired man stood in the doorway with a shorter, but muscular, black haired man next to him.

"Plasma! You made it," Air greeted him. Plasma flashed his pearly whites and dismissed his brother, Thunder, who promptly left.

"Thanks for dropping me off!" Plasma called after Thunder before plopping down on a bouncy ball. Water turned her attention towards Plasma, an anomaly she could never quite grasp. Quiet yet flashy. The life of the party, but only for a second. She studied him carefully before greeting him.

"Hello, Plasma. You finally showed up." Water tilted her head curiously and Plasma nodded in response. Earth returned to her story about working in customer service.

"Anyway, the lady totally lost it and dumped her drink on me-" she is immediately cut off by more laughing from Fire. As much as Fire loves to judge others' stories, Fire never shares much and lashes out when Water tries to get him to open up. She somehow always manages to calm him down, though. She's got that kind of magic to douse his attitude that most don't, so they all figure that's why he stays, even when he always threatens to leave and never return.

Earth begins to argue with Fire while Air remains distracted by the fairy lights strung around the plain room. Among the chaos, Water sighs and rubs the bridge of her nose in slight irritation, but then meets Plasma's eyes. He looked uncomfortable. "Guys, maybe we should calm down." Water's voice rose, but was drowned out by the noise from the others. In contrast, it only took Plasma one glare shot towards the group and they all directed their attention at him. He may be quiet, but he sure knows how to catch attention.

"Let's return to the session, everyone." Water began, addressing the group as a whole again. Maybe today they'd be able to make some progress. Last week they couldn't even get past Air's longwinded story about her cat. Everyone murmured in agreement, ready to move on.
