Thumbelina was tired of hiding away in pockets to get where she needed to go.

Then one day she came across a young bird that had fallen out of its nest, and after waiting to see if the mother came back for it, she took it home with her.

It was more difficult to raise a baby bird when you are almost the exact same size; she fed it worms and bugs, pilfered a old sock for a nest, and kept it warm.

Then one day the baby bird flapped it’s wings, and she saw potential in its budding adult feathers. She called it ‘Darcy’, and set about making teeny tiny harnesses and saddles that Thumbelina slowly introduced.

A cat found the makeshift nest where they both slept, luckily she woke up and saddled the bird, urging it to fly.

It took an agonisingly long time to fly away from the cat as it chased, adrenaline surging as Thumbelina and Darcy took to the sky above.

Thumbelina felt taller as she soared over rooftops and rocketed over roads, and most importantly, she felt free.
