The fire destroyed half the city, and so many families were lost. I know that feeling all too well. My parents were heroes, running into and out of buildings to save people trapped inside. They were saving lives, but in the process, they lost their own. I walk around the remnants of what used to be my home, my life. But I don’t have a home here anymore. All of the memories I made here with my family are gone. And I can’t stay in this city if I want to move on. I have to go. The gates around our city were meant to protect us, and as a child I would always wonder what was on the other side. Now, sneaking around the guards as they opened the gate for the trucks that transported supplies, I got to see the outside for myself. Looking over the vast landscape of vibrant grass and clear waters, I had finally escaped the chains of lies that held me down my entire life. They told us that the outside was a desolate, dangerous place. But now I see nothing but light. I’m ready to start my new life, my new adventure
