POEM STARTER
Write a descriptive poem which portrays a busy city.
You could use metaphors, imagery, and appeal to the senses, to really capture the feel of a city.
Letter to your Lover for a Dark Morning
It was a walking city, a-buzz with the morning crowd
Running to get their coffee,
and sit with their thoughts before the sun could bring what was loud;
This was a new crowd to me, I was more used to noon
But something about this time, it didn’t feel out of tune
Not the way waking up at twelve felt
This five o’ clock wave had quite a few notches under its belt
A grandpa and granddaughter with easels in tow
Lovers with hot chocolate in hand saying “how I love you so”
It was peaceful and calm, but still a busy city
I never understood how a dark morning could be so pretty
I think I am starting to get it now, I really do
I think this is a city, I’d want to share with you
I have walked quite a bit now, and the sun is starting to smile
And with it comes more people, but a different type of crowd
Loud and stressed and busy as bees
Lover I am thankful for what one in a dark morning sees
