POEM STARTER

Submitted by HardCoreWriter

‘If desires are a flame, then I am a wildfire.’

Use this line to inspire a poem or short story.

Wildfire

The sun dimming behind the skyline as I sat on top of the barren mountain on the outskirts of town, watching my flames engulf the city, one building at a time falling as smoke filled the sky. Darkness blending with the dusk.

“It’s time to go.”

The voice behind me seemed further away than he was. Approval and disappointment, confliction of emotions being sent down our bond as he kept his distance.

I made no move to shift, to turn away from the destructive reactions that caused this.

Destruction.

That’s what my mother always told me I would succumb to being in this world.

“Haylee, it’s time. We need to go now before they start the hunt.” This time Darren placed his hand on my shoulder. He was always so damn insistent. Maybe I wanted to be caught. Maybe this was finally my breaking point and I was done running.

My skin still felt like fire as power rushed through me, wanting more of an outlet than the city I just set wildfire to and burned down.
