Catch Your Breath

“Do you have the package?” Bertie stood beside the lonely park bench fighting to sneak a gaze at the man occupying it, that would be too emotional.

“Jesus Christ Bertie this isn’t some spy film look at me won’t you?” Robert demanded, Bertie reluctantly turned his head. “We’ll hand it over then” Robert rolled his eyes and pulled out a small package wrapped in brown wrapping paper, tied up with a string. “Thank you” Bertie yoinked the package away from his ex.

“It doesn’t have to be like this Bertie we were so good together what went wrong?” Robert patted the seat next to him and with a sign Bertie took his place. “Things got too heavy, hanging out with you was fun but after we started dating… it got too much, I never felt like that before.” Robert nodded in acknowledgement. Bertie looked towards his ex; awkwardness strewn across his face. Robert laughed and pulled Bertie in for a hug.

“You’re so awkward, you know that right?” Bertie blushed. “If things were getting too much I would have understood, if you’d just told me. I’d like to still be friends with you if you want, no expectations.” Bertie nodded and nuzzled into Robert’s shoulder. “I’d really like that” he inhaled the man’s sent.

“But… I have another suggestion” Bertie lifted his head, confused. “What’s that?” Robert lifted Bertie’s chin with his index finger and leaned in for a kiss. The pair made out for what much have been ten whole minutes. Afterwards they both looked sweaty and frazzled. “I liked that suggestion” Bertie laughed catching his breath “go anymore?”
