Let’s Go on a Adventure
“Let’s do something crazy. We can go on an adventure, some where far way from here.” The wind whipped at the children, tearing at their skin.Timothy cuddled closer to his frail little brother.
“Can we go anywhere?” Jonah asked.
“Anywhere. We can go to China and see the dragon or to Australia and see a kangaroo.”
He pulled his brother out of the path of a drunken straggler who nearly fell on the boy.
“Can we go see the castle in England? Can we meet the queen?” Jonah perked up.
“Let’s go, right now!” He grabbed Jonah’s hand and they took off into the street. They dodged broken bottle pieces and needles that littered the ground.
The boys laughed as they imagined the barred buildings as prisons and the bystanders as knights. The lady pushing the shopping cart was really a witch and the man smoking was secretly a dragon.
They jumped in the sea, disguised as a pot hole. They ran around the old cars that were really wild horses. The rags they wore transformed into cloaks made of gold and sliver fabric.
They we’re having the time of their lives, turning their home into a wonderland. But the fantasy came crashing down when a car swerved and Jonah wasn’t fast enough to move out of the way.
“Jonah!” Timothy let out a sob as the young boy went flying and landed on the side walk.He ran to his little brother, sobbing and cradling him as blood oozed from his mouth.
“You are okay, you’re okay. We are in the forest, you see that over there; it’s a water fall.” Jonah tilted his head, coughing up blood as he did.
“I see it, it is beautiful.” He choked on the last word; blood stained Timothy’s shirt. He looked to the side.
“There’s a knight there too. He’s coming over to help us everything o-“ he stopped.Everything was not going to be okay. Jonah stopped moving, stopped choking, stopped breathing.
“Jonah! Jonah! Please! Hold on,he’s almost here! Please!” He sobbed shaking his little brother. He couldn’t see through the tears anymore; snot coated his mouth and chin”
“Hey son, come on let’s go.” The police officer grabbed him; carrying him away kicking and screaming. He set Timothy in the back seat of his cop car after a great struggle. Timothy stole a glance at his brother, he was sitting on a white horse next to a knight in shining sliver armor.
Timothy did not take him eyes off of them until they were the size of a gnat. He wished he could’ve gone with his brother, to see the queen.
