The Castle

The dictionary defines a forest as an area of land dominated by trees however Atticus had never taken a fancy to the verb “dominate”.Ascending attentively from trenches of lush turf, the trees appeared more like soldiers than invaders.Towering Treasurers that embraced the forest in their emerald glow as the sun beat their canopy into floods of gold.He watched it bleed onto the turrets of The Castle with his eyes casting to a ashy coloured ledge around the front stonework that had turned a blazing bronze in the light.Every other brick of the wall had been gorged on by fleets of lichen and was now lost in the void of his shadow however The Castle was never to be worn away. The light inside splattered with emerald and gold cried through the darkness that covered it and Atticus had to clutch at withered tree branches to keep from falling face first into its depths.
