WRITING OBSTACLE
Create a scene that shows the readers how a character embodies both of the following words: sharp and tender.
Disarmed
The day drags on. I keep my face controlled, not letting my emotions get the better of me, only speaking when absolutely necessary. _It's not that big of a deal. _At least that's what my head says. Then my head gets mad because my heart says it is a big deal and... _stop, don't be overly dramatic_. Only four more hours to go.
In the halls people veer to get out of my way. They know I won't stop or slow to let others pass. My stern expression drives away anyone who might try to approach me. I like it better that way anyhow. Three hours till I can go home.
At this point people have learned it's not worth trying to get to know me. But that's not my problem, it's their own. It's not like I could ever be lonely...
This day is never ending.
I'm so drained.
I want to be done.
When I get home I open the door and set my bags down. My mother wraps her arms around me and as I melt into her all of my burdens fall off, if only for a moment. The tears threaten to come but for different reasons this time. And without uttering a word, I know that she knows. I don't even have to say anything. I can finally let down my guard, drop my shield, and take off my mask.
