Joy Ride
Can you feel it beating?
The sick twisting of your heart while you send your mind abroad, away from the hurting.
But the further you wander the harder it twists, crying, screaming for attention.
For relief.
But you won’t give them,
you can’t,
it’s too much,
too loud,
can’t think,
can’t breathe,
open your mouth,
shut your eyes,
But the sky is so pretty.
And, yes, this book is so interesting.
That game is so thrilling,
These layers, thick comforters that wrap around the ears tight and snug.
The comfort, the excitement, tantalizing distraction is all so alluring, so healing.
A sirens cradle, so sweet that dreams hang just adrift but if only not for the beating in your chest.
Distant at first, never quite gone.
The lullaby had drowned the noise but oh now again it’s incessant the pounding and screaming and once more you are hurtling down the street
And who took your covers ?
You pull over to the side of the road and put yourself in park.
