POEM STARTER
Who are we when no one is watching?
Write a poem that answers this question.
Roots of the Hidden Self
Who are we when no one is watching?
Are we loud? Scared? Or always latching?
Breaking out of our shells or diving in deeper?
Are we face to face with god or left with the reaper?
Who we are when alone is our true essence.
Intricately woven together from adolescence.
Do you hear dozens of voices or just the faint one?
Can you sit in the silence or do you just run?
When the curtains go down does the mask peel away?
Or do you strap it on tighter to be on display?
In those moments alone when time stands still.
We find our true selves buried beneath our will.
Whatโs found deep within is our dreams, fears, and scars.
We are blasted up away among the stars.
For in the quiet, we see it clear.
Everything we value, we hold it dear.
