Lonesome

The portals were opened, but nobody else could see them. I peered from my window, watching as a man on a bike rode right by them as if they were billboards. In the morning fog and dew, people strode on the shore, enjoying the sand, the cool wind, as if two tools to enter another world weren’t right there in front of them.

I saw them, though. One blue, one red. One for a world of ice, one for a world of flame. Then there was this world, our world. Normal for us, but alien to others. Knowing that I was about to step foot into another world, another universe, made me appreciate the waves, the sky, the clouds. I didn’t know if the other worlds would have them, but I knew I needed to go.
