The Boundless Tide

The elevation of the waves shrouded the night sky in a shimmering wall of salt water, lingering for the briefest of moments before crashing back down with an echoed thud. The storm rattled the Earth, tugging at the water like a puppet master with strings and bending it to its will -- orchestrating chaos.

Otheseus watched from the mainland, eyes narrowed against the whipping winds, occasionally catching glimpses of the anarchy when the lightning crackled through the sky, splitting the darkness in two. He was powerless in the moment, watching the ocean churn into strife, the Earth groaning beneath the surface as if it ached to be toyed with in such violence. Rain splintered against his face, stabbing at his skin, mixing with the tears spilling from his eyes, for the waters knew what it meant to be battered to and fro -- obliteration.

"I am to do nothing than what is expected of me", Otheseus thought, the words not his own but those forced upon him, "but to what end? Complete devastation...or merely the quiet misery of my own failure?"
