I prayed this one is one of my smaller mistakes.

Mistakes. Errors. They say that we make them all the time. “To err is human.” Whoever said that does not know me. To err is me. That is more like it. To err is Rupert. Rue. That’s what they call me. I’m sure my mom rued the day she had me. Which is why she called me Rupert. And why she calls me Rue now. “Rue, go get me some coffee.” “Rue, fix me some breakfast.” Rue, this, Rue that. Rue, Rue, Rue.

Ah but what’s the use? I can’t rue every day just ‘cause it’s my name. Which is why I pray this mistake is one of my smaller ones. Maybe it won’t make such a big deal in my life. After all, it’s just a nick, right? Not like I poked somebody’s eye out or anything. Just a nick. A cut. A small cut. Oh, I hope the ambulance gets here soon.
