The significance of Heather’s birthday is where Kyonna and Matt had met each other at a nightclub especially at the bar. Despite Matt not being invited, Matt only went to the nightclub just to see his buddies make complete fools of themselves in front of women and their cringe attempts of hitting on women. He wasn’t interested in hooking up for a cheap thrill. He was simply at the bar watching his friends dance and make fools of themselves out of them with girls not knowing that he would meet and encounter a beautiful woman in Kyonna there. From the moment that Matt had seen a glimpse of Kyonna wandering around the nightclub in a beautiful dress and he knew that it was something there between him and her when they made that first eye contact. Now in Kyonna’s perspective, she was invited from her best friend in Heather who was having her birthday party at a nightclub. She didn’t want to go to the birthday party at first like she was super hesitant and just wanted to deal with what Chris has done to her on her own. But through Courtney’s insistence and Kyonna’s mother, she does eventually goes to the nightclub with Courtney who is giving her advice to try and have fun tonight for heather and to keep her heart open for love despite Chris’s cheating. Despite Kyonna’s hesitance and guardedness, she does eventually is taken back from Matt as he did brought her drink and is taken back from his rugged charm and appearance. If Courtney never insisted on Kyonna going to Heather’s birthday party then the love story of Kyonna and Matt never would have started. If Kyonna never went to Heather’s birthday party then Heather would have been worried about Kyonna and asked her questions. So this fits into the larger story of “Attraction” where the beginning of Matt and Kyonna’s relationship had begun at a nightclub where they had met and the spark of the fire between them grows as the story proceeds between the both of them.
