This Is Goodbye
I watched as she walked down the aisle, she looked like a princess that walked out of a book.
But I know that this is not how she liked to dress. If it were up to her, she’d wear a white tuxedo or even a tank top with a pair of sweatpants.
As she stood infront of my friend, her fiance, I could see the faint sadness in her eyes. They no longer had the shine they used to have. She looked like a bird in a cage then the wild one she was before.
My heart tugged as the ceremony went on. I loved her but she was not mine. Our families didn’t get along. So her parents arranged a marriage between her and my friend who came from a wealthy family.
I watched as she left with her new husband. And I just stood there as the clapping and cheers became disoriented.
The room cleared out but I remained, sitting down on the ground. Tears stinging my eyes as I tugged at my tux.
I had to let her go but it hurt so much. She was my friend and much more.
We met when I moved into the neighborhood when I was ten. Since then she has stuck by my side, going to each other’s houses and playing in the woods even though we’d get in trouble afterwards.
I wanted her to be with me for the rest of my life as lovers but now she’s someone elses.
I love her but this is goodbye.
